Olive Okoro (she/they) is the founder of Queer Motherland. Olive is a lesbian Nigerian immigrant who founded the nonprofit due to the lack of representation and educational materials given to the advocacy towards queer Africans across the diaspora. She holds a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in economics with a minor in Sociology. She is a content creator who uses her platform to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, financial literacy, human rights and all people from all walks of life. Olive uses her platform to build the Queer Motherland name and spread the message for all queer Africans to know that they are loved and that there is a community dedicated to aiding each other.
Chidinma Onyebu (She/Her) is the Vice-President and Director of Outreach for Queer Motherland. Chidinma is a bisexual Nigerian. She joined Queer Motherland due to the lack of Queer African Representation and the stigma around Queer being an inherently “White/American thing”. She wanted to help create a community for other Queer Africans. She is currently studying Finance and Marketing on the Pre-Law Track. Chidinma has a lifetime bucket list and recently crossed out writing and directing a play from it while she was in London!
Jember Feuilladieu (they/them) is the Director of Education and Strategy for Queer Motherland. Jem is a lesbian Ethiopian who joined Queer Motherland to promote accurate historical education and increase collaboration in the advocacy for queer Africans. They hold a Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Global Health and currently work as a Healthcare Education and Engagement Specialist at NAMI Chicago. Jem is passionate about community building and increasing visibility for underrepresented groups.
Zewd Azeb (they/he) is the Mental Health & Immigrant Advocate for Queer Motherland. Zewd is a trans & poly Ethiopian currently living in Texas. They are a licensed professional counseling associate who graduated with a Bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in Sociology and Chemistry and a Master's degree in Counseling specializing in Clinical Mental Health. They are passionate about creating trauma informed accessible mental health spaces and resources that center healing justice for queer Africans. Zewd also works on advocating for queer Africans who are impacted by displacement or need to relocate to a safer environment where they get to be their most authentic selves.
