We envision a world in which Queer Africans can live and love freely in an environment of acceptance and liberation. Our efforts aim to address and dispel the misconception that queerness is solely a Western construct. This false assumption has contributed to the experiences of violence, discrimination, and fear faced by our Queer African counterparts. Our primary goal is to promote a global understanding and acknowledgment of our rich history, ensuring that our rights and existence are recognized, respected, and valued worldwide.
We have a reach of over 15.5k users through our Instagram account.

Queer Motherland was founded in April of 2025 and launched at a Free Mom Hugs Event. The Founder and CEO Olive Okoro, who has been a long standing queer advocate, created this organization to address the intersectional experiences of Queer Africans that are often overlooked/neglected in broader advocacy for queer rights worldwide.
Since its inception, Queer Motherland has participated in various forums, including pride panels, memorial events, organizational functions, and corporate engagements, to raise awareness and foster community. The organization develops educational content, hosts monthly book clubs, and organizes pop-up events aimed at promoting community engagement, education, and advocacy.
Our advocacy is rooted in our shared humanity and collective experience as a diverse, all-queer African team with lived perspectives at the intersection of being African and Queer. We believe in the importance of collective responsibility and care, and we are committed to leveraging our platforms to elevate the voices of Queer Africans, advocating for our safety, well-being, and liberation.
The Queer Motherland logo is a symbolic representation of Africa's inherent queerness. It features a rainbow-colored Africa set against a green background, emphasizing Africa's central role as the foundation of humanity. Our primary colors are purple, representing the global symbol of queerness, and green, reflecting the colors found in many African flags and symbolizing nature and the world—embodying the concept of "Motherland" in our name.
