Why We Care
A nonprofit made by queer Africans FOR queer Africans!
Our mission is to create a world where queer Africans across the diaspora are free to be who they are socially, economically, and politically. We want to see a world where queer African history is taught in schools across African nations because of the freedom we were always supposed to have. We are here to build a world of advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights to be respected in all African nations and reverse the impact colonization has done to the largest queer community in the world.
Africa is the foundation of humanity and therefore the foundation of queerness. We are here to prove it!
About Us
Queer Motherland seeks to reclaim the erased histories of queer Africans, honor the ancestors who lived in silence, and empower today’s generation to embrace their full selves. By exploring intersectionality and exposing colonial roots of homophobia, we aim to inspire collective healing, cultural remembrance, and a liberated future where African queerness is no longer denied but celebrated.
